Ski in New Zealand

June 1, 2006

Are you thinking skiing yet. The start of the new season is less than 3 months away with the Kangaroo Hoppet being contested during the last week-end of August. For skiers from the Northern Hemisphere the trip to Australia is very long. However, you can combine the Australian visit with a trip to New Zealand. The Snow farm, between Queenstown and Wanaka, is a great area for cross-country skiing and it is only a few hours by air from Melbourne. The skiing is at an altitude of over 1500 meters. There are lots of well-groomed tracks that are more spectacular because they are above the tree line. The Snow farm hosts three races on August 19. The Merino Muster is 42 km long and there is also a 21 km and a 7 km race. Furthermore, if the past predicts the future you will find the US cross-country ski team there.
