Marcialonga confirms the ideal start.

August 16, 2007

We reported about the revolutionary start arrangement adopted by Marcialonga in 2007 when the start took place in Campestrin. This ideal system will be used also in 2008 at the traditional start place Moena.

For those who were not present at Marcialonga 2007, or who did not read the previous report, we can state the following. It consists in principle of a continuous flow of skiers through a start gate at which the individual start time is recorded using the time keeping chip carried by the skiers. The skiers are grouped in "waves" with a prescribed time for the start of the flow of each wave. With a suitable time interval between the waves, there are no bottlenecks after the start. There is not the slightest trace of a battlefield effect in the start area and therefore skiers behave with calm.

Marcialonga's ideal start opens a new era in popular ski races. We have written to a few other Worldloppet races drawing their attention to the success of the Marcialonga system which is an example to follow.
