Dolomiten Classic Race

On January 21, 2006 Dolomitenlauf organized for the first time a 42 km classic race valid for the Gold Master. It took place in Obertilliach, about 40 km from Lienz, at altitudes around 1500m, with start and finish at the biathlon stadium. The organizers' efforts were rewarded by a good success, 413 skiers finished the race.

We had sunny weather and an almost ideal mild cold. Excellent tracks and an attractive course were enjoyable to the skiers. The first 80 % of the course were on easy terrain. It went down on numerous zigzags on the meadows below Obertilliach and came back along the river, the opposite direction compared to the previous year's 30 km race. A more challenging part followed with a long and relatively steep climb in the woods above the stadium. The winner's time was 2.56.02

Dolomitenlauf

Dolomitenlauf took place on January 22, 2006, the day after Dolomiten Classic Race.

This year there was again a good layer of snow in the Lienz area and the traditional course down the Drau river and back was followed. The weather was good, just below freezing at the start and around zero at the finish. The track was perfectly prepared. This race is very flat, the only difficulty is the climb to Nikolsdorf at mid-race. The descent from there had more turns than before and was very easy to negotiate. 614 skiers finished the race, a notable growth from last year. The winner's time was 2.22.45.

A reception for the WL masters was offered in the Stadthaus. It was followed by a Kaiserschmarrnfestival with music.
