Jizerská Padesátka on January 15.
January 22, 2006
This year´s Jizerská Padesátka took place in ideal conditions: sunny weather and a mild cold, -9°C in the morning and a few degrees below zero at finish. The Jizera mountains had abundant snow with more than one meter everywhere and much more on the top. The grooming was perfect.
Six start waves with 5 min intervals had been implemented. However, because of the narrowness of the track (this is a nature protection area where it is not allowed to fell trees), some minor traffic problems occurred in the beginning of the climb just after the start. The skiers had to take it easy until soon after they could start skiing at their own pace.
First through woods in the long but easy climb up to the 10 km point where wide views on the surroundings rewarded their efforts. Then the track made a long loop to the turning point near the Polish border and back on the other side of the crest, with some funny descents and some climbs, whereas the last ten km were mainly a descent back to the Bedrichov stadium.
Worldloppet skiers are not interested in knowing who was the winner. But they are interested in the winner´s time: 2.12.09 because this is the reference against which they can measure their performance.
For Worldloppet Masters the organizers offered as usual a pasta party on Saturday evening.
Our thanks to the organizers and the many volunteers! See you next year!
