Finlandia Hiihto on Saturday 24th and 25th
The 34th Finlandia Hiihto was run on Saturday 24th February with the main race shortened to 50 km. The day began with cool overcast conditions and a multiple wave start for the main event followed by a 2 wave start for the 32km event. The tracks were good and remained so for the tail enders. As the day progressed there were occassional light snow flurries, but the weather remained largely pleasant and enjoyable. Food stations were well organised, with an excellent clean up system, leaving remarkably little litter along the trail.
The Sunday 50km skate was commenced at the very civilised hour of 10 am. The day was bright and sunny and remained so for the event. The trail was well repaired from the previous day's 3979 skiers, providing an excellent skating course with remarkably the same person winning the skate event as the classic with an improvement of 12 mins on his previous day's time.
