Keskinada
Classical race on Saturday February 17
The relatively low snow cover forced organizers to alter the normal Keskinada course so that it was almost entirely on the parkway roads in Gatineau Park. Skiers did a short loop of 9k, passing through the start area before heading out on the longer 44k section which involved skiing out on one side of parkway roads and returning on the opposite side of the same road. There were several long, gradual climbs and descents. The full distance of 53k was maintained for both the classic and skating events.
Saturday’s classic events took place in relatively mild temperatures for the Keskinada, about -8C at the start, -6C during the afternoon. There was a mix of sun and clouds with a fairly strong wind. The tracks were in good condition but the snow was relatively slow. Most skiers were double poling on many of the more gradual downhills. Participation was lower than last year with only 325finishers in the main event. The winner was IAWLS member Phil Shaw in 2:53:28.9
