La Transjurasienne 2009

February 25, 2009

This year there was really a lot of snow in the Jura-Regon. The views were like in a fairytale. It was also snowing during both of the races, especially on Saturday, so this year no one complained about lack of snow.

La TransjurassieneThe race on Saturday – 50 km CL

The weather forecast was about -7C at start point and about -2C at finish line. As it is sometimes in the mountains, the weather was different then they predicted in the forecast – it was exactly 0C and it was snowing, which means very difficult conditions for waxing the skis. But it always could have been worse – it could be raining.
The contestants had to deal with snow sticking to the skis and during the race you could see many contestants removing the snow form the skis. The best situation had skiers who had NOWAX SKIS. Because of the weather conditions many contestants will never forget this race but after all you usually remember the most difficult races.

La TransjurassieneThe races on Sunday (76 km and 54 km FT)

The falling snow looked really beautiful and because of the low speed the skiers could admire the beautiful views of Jura. The moment where the race for 54 km joined the race for 76 km was perfectly chosen. The contestant of the 54-km-race joined the 76-km-race smoothtly. There was a small jam in one place but it had a good side: you could rest a while and talk to other contestants.

La TransjurassieneThe contestants were brought to the race and later transported really ably – great thanks to the organizers for that. Among the volunteers there were a lot of children who served drinks with smiles on their faces. A few kilometers before the finish line, on the last height, there was a fan who “lift up the spirit” by greeting the skiers by name. Although the weather conditions were difficult I’ll keep unforgettable impressions from La Transjurassienne, the food was very good and the logistic solutions on the finish line were perfect.
