Jizerska Padesatka 2011

For the first time in its history Jizserska Padesatka closed the registration well in advance before the race. The 44th edition broke the record of the number of participants which not only speaks about the popularity of the Czech race but also about the growing popularity of cross country skiing.
It is not only Vasaloppet now that is full many weeks before it starts. Marcialonga and Birkebeinerrennet also have to close registrations earlier. Jizerska has joined this exclusive club this year. Who will be the next?
There were about 5000 skiers registered for the main 50 km classic race and 25km competition on the same day. Bedrzichovska 30, free style,  which takes place on Friday afternoon also reached a record number of almost 500 participants.
Jizerska is the first race( after summer Kangoroo Hoppet) in the Worldloppet series so no wonder that skiers could not wait for the official Worldloppet kick off. Especially in the season when winter came so early and offered such good conditions as in Jizera Mountains. It started to snow here in the middle of Novemeber and at the beginning of December the cross country skiing season seemed to be on the full swing both in Polish and Czech part of these beautiful mountains. Ironically, after many days of snowfall, heavy frost and sunshine the race weekend was warm and hazy. Despite soft snow course was well prepared and all races were enjoyable and performed in competitive spirit. The race showed that 5000 skiers is truly the limit for this course and any bigger number would make it too crowded.
Anders Aukland won the race in a very good time 2:05:40,  almost two minutes ahead of Oskar Svard and more than four minutes before Stanislav Rezac. The organization of the race is improving every year. Thanks to the flow start that Jizerska has adopted three years ago there were no serious bottlenecks on the first uphill part of the course despite it is narrow and has only 3 tracks.
We are looking forward to the next 45th edition of Jizerska.
