When arriving at Munich airport the train connection to Oberammergau is convenient and you don’t necessarily need to rent a car.

From the Munich airport, change at Pasing (easy platform change), not Munich downtown. Return connections are also frequent. The first leaves Oberammergau at 5:05 (bus) and reaches Munich airport at 7:28 but it involves 3 changes. (Updated October 2004; always check actual timetables)

Accommodations

In Oberammergau there is a vast variety of accommodations ranging from very cheap to expensive. 5 day all-inclusive arrangement seems to be very interesting. The race’s web-page contains the entry Travel information where you find the web-site of the city’s tourist office, www.oberammergau.de . The latter contains the list of hotels, guesthouses and B&Bs with addresses and prices plus the entry Service where you find the town map with street directory.

It is possible to get an accommodation at the tourist office the day of your arrival.

Where to eat

Oberammergau as well as environmental villages has very good restaurants and inexpensive snacks. Ask for advice at the local Tourist Office

Things to see

Oberammergau is famous for its Passion Play, performed every decade by towns-people. Passionstheater, (Passionwiese 1) where the performances take place, include the history of the play and a peek at the costumes and seats (join guided daily tours 9 to 18).

Schloss Linderhof. About 12km west of Oberammergau is King Ludwig II’s smallest but most magnificent place. This castle is closed during the winter. König Ludwig Lauf (55km) is passing by in the proximity of the castle. At 25km after food station 300m watch to the left.

The restaurant in the castle’s premises allows a small stop during training tour.
